Obituary

Beatrice Joan Marr, 95, 402 E. Hale Lake Road passed away Friday January 9, 2026, at St Luke's East Hospital, Lee's Summit, MO.

She was born on February 22, 1930, to Hugh D. & Neva V. Poort (Norman) in Johnson County, MO. She was the fourth child in this family of 14 children which led to many challenges for them, but there was much cooperation and love to see them through. They were farm folks raising animals, tending to fields and helping neighbors.

Joan, as most folks called her, was an inquisitive child with a love of the outdoors, raising plants, and caring for her siblings. Listening to music and singing and yodeling with her sisters and brothers was one of her great delights. She moved to town with her sister to find employment and worked at Riggles Restaurant while she went to school. She attended Central Missouri Teachers College and earned her teaching certificate and then taught school in a couple of rural schoolhouses in the county. Joan married Allen Marr on July 29, 1950, in Warrensburg, MO and they along with his brothers built their houses on the south edge of the city. Allen passed away December 29, 1980.
