Betty Charlene Stephens, age 91, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.

She was born on August 21, 1930, in Humboldt, Kansas, the sixth of seven children born to William and Georgia (Morelan) Tasche.

Betty was united in marriage to Charles E. Stephens, Jr., on December 25, 1947, in Iola, Kansas. The couple made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, where they were members of Marlborough Baptist Church and later Holmeswood Baptist Church. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Warrensburg. Betty was a beautician who worked at several shops in the KC area before setting up a shop in her home in the mid-1960s. She finally decided to slow down and stopped taking appointments when she turned 85. She lived with her son, Dell from September 2017 until she was moved to The Arbors, a memory care facility, in August of 2021.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 2008; her parents; her sisters, Alice Whitford and Jennie (Jenna) Tasche; her brothers, Lowell, Floyd, and Cloyd (Corky) Tasche.

She is survived by her oldest brother, Wesley "Wes" (Naomi) Tasche of Chanute, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Sharon (Ken) Stephens Kernen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons, Dell (Joyce) Stephens of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Matt (Bounthom "Thom") Stephens of Belton, Missouri; four grandchildren: Angela (Charles) Tayloe, Jay (Anya) Stephens, Lamphone (Touny) Nhotharack and Dan Stephens; and eight great-grandchildren: Bryce, Reese and Ian Tayloe, Mila and Sasha Stephens, Vanessa, Allana, and Jaydee Nhotharack.

Betty's family will gather at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, for her burial on a later date. If desired, memorial contributions are recommended to an Alzheimer's group or a charity of your choice.
