Obituary

Caroline (Carol) Elizabeth (Kalb) Rietbrock, age 99, of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away August 2, 2022 at her home.

Services will be held Friday August 12, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warrensburg. Visitation will begin at 9 AM, Rosary at 9:30 AM and Funeral Mass at 10 AM.

Carol's parents Carl and Eleanor (Kavanaugh) Kalb and her 3 siblings, John, Theresa, and Isabelle preceded her in death. In December of 2020, Carol lost Fred Rietbrock, her best friend, partner, and beloved husband of 70 years.  Carol is survived by her two daughters, Mary Rietbrock of Warrensburg and Carol Ann (L. Russell) Matthias of Blue Springs, Missouri as well as 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving caregivers, Mary Lee Versch and Karen Young

Carol was born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on October 22, 1922 and lived in various small Wisconsin communities until her family settled in Eagle, Wisconsin. After high school, she commuted to Whitewater where she earned her Bachelor's degree from The University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. In the summer of 1949, she was on summer break from teaching high school in Branden, Wisconsin when she met Fred. They began dating and were married on August 5, 1950. Carol continued to teach Business Education in a variety of Wisconsin communities, at The Dacca American Society School in Dacca, East Pakistan and finally for 14 years at Knob Noster High School; retiring in 1984. It was during her time at Knob Noster that she received her Master's Degree in Education from CMSU.

Carol joined Delta Zeta Sorority in 1945, while she was at Whitewater, and remained active in supporting the Warrensburg chapter until only a few years ago. In August 1995 she was awarded The Order of the Golden Rose honoring her Fifty Years of Membership in Delta Zeta.

After retirement, Carol and Fred enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Texas and summers enjoying various domestic and foreign trips. When not traveling, Carol was an active supporter of the Bargain Box, The Johnson County Food Pantry and enjoyed playing bridge with a long-standing group of friends.

Carol was a beloved Mom, Grammie, and friend and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Johnson County Food Pantry (being coordinated by Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.)
