Cathleen
Lowe
Mar 14, 1951 — Jan 23, 2022
Clinton
Cathleen Jane Lowe, age 70, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 14, 1951 in Mexico, MO the daughter of Bill Evan Matthews and Georgia Jane Erdel. While in high school, Cathy was an active member of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls organization. She met her husband, Gary, on the first weekend of October in 1967. Cathy was driving around with friends, and came upon Gary and his friends in their own car. Despite the boys best efforts, they were outraced until the girls allowed them to catch up. From there, Gary and Cathy became high school sweethearts. After graduating high school, they were united in marriage to Gary Lowe on May 31, 1969.
Gary joined the airforce soon after they were married and they spent about three and a half years enjoying Sacramento, California. When they moved back to Missouri, Cathy worked for Unitog, while Gary worked and completed two degrees at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
Cathy gave birth to their daughter, Amanda on November 1, 1984. It was said that Cathy refused to have a Halloween baby, so she made sure that Amanda did not enter the world until after midnight Cathy was a very devoted mother. She was able to quit her job, and stay home full time when Amanda entered kindergarten. Cathy was active in PTO, and enjoyed baking and planning parties for the kids. She and Gary ensured that they never missed a tennis match, winter guard performance, or band competition as Amanda moved through high school. Cathy was known to have snacks ready for any and all friends who came through the front door.
Cathy became a grandmother to Jackson in 2015 and again to Patrick in 2019. She adored her grandsons, and would often have puzzles or games ready to play when they came over. She delighted in the stories they shared and would often giggle when they were being ornery.
Gary and Cathy moved to Clinton, Missouri in 2018. They found a home that gave them the room they desired, had land they could garden, and overlooked a beautiful pond at sunset. In her last few years, Cathy enjoyed traveling to new restaurants, and finding unique flowers to accentuate their flower beds.
Cathy is survived by her husband Gary Lowe, and their two shelties Missy and Dewey; her daughter Amanda (Anthony) Littrell and her grandchildren Jackson (6) and Patrick (2) Littrell of Warrensburg, MO; her brother Chuck Matthews of Mexico, MO, her sisters Christy (Chuck) Earley, of Mexico, MO, and Cheryl (Steve) Mosely, of Mexico, MO. Her dad Bill (Katie) Matthews, and sister Karen (Michael) Elliott, and so many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Jane and Ronnie Carlisle, and her mother and father in law Birney and Kathleen Lowe.
