Obituary

Charles W. Staatz, affectionately known as Charley, passed away at the age of 90 on January 6, 2023. Charlie was born on September 30, 1932, to Wesley and Viola Staatz in Junction City, Kansas.

Charley began his professional career as a mason in South Dakota and then worked for many years for the Royce Masonry Company out of Kansas. He worked on the Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas and remained a lifelong KU Jayhawk fan (Rock Chalk). He and his family traveled throughout the Midwest as he was a foreman for the company. Sy Royce and Donnie Staten were very good friends throughout this time. In late 60's he literally hand built a home on the Lake of the Ozarks. His family enjoyed many years there.

Charley was remarried to Jan on August 7, 1976. He spent the rest of his life with Jan and various "little ones" (their dogs) in the Warrensburg area. Charley was a kind, loving man to Jan and treated her in a very special way. He was known all over town, loved to strike a conversation with anyone he met and will be missed by many.

He was a master craftsman. He was very detailed and took absolute pride in his work. Much of what he built with his own two hands will remain for years. He should be remembered forever as a brick, stone and block mason that was at the top of his trade.

He also loved various sports, whether as a participant, coaching his son, or attending events in Warrensburg.

Charley is survived by his wife Jan, brother Floyd, daughter Barb, son Rod, step-daughter Melissa, step-son Thom, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
