Obituary

Doris Marilyn Hampton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on June 30, 2023, in Topeka, KS. She was born on February 21, 1936, in Waverly, MO, to Charles Lane and Marie Lane (McKee). Doris was 87 years old at the time of her passing.

On October 11, 1952, Doris married the love of her life, Homer Hampton, in Waverly, MO. They shared a beautiful journey together, filled with love, companionship, and countless cherished memories.

Doris had a zest for life and pursued her passions with unwavering enthusiasm. She had a love for travel, exploring new places, and immersing herself in different cultures. Reading was another cherished pastime, but her true passion was cooking. Doris was the proud owner of Marilyn's Bread and Roll, a business she established to share her culinary talents. She specialized in orange rolls and cinnamon rolls, which she provided to a local restaurant for an extended period. Doris's dedication to her craft was evident as she collected cookbooks, finding inspiration within their pages and reading them like most people read novels.

Doris is survived by her devoted husband, Homer Hampton, and their two sons, Terry Hampton and his wife Katherine of Lee's Summit, MO., and Michael Hampton and his wife Tamara of Auburn, KS., She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Heather Maxon and her husband Bud of Odessa, MO; Paul Hampton and his wife Chelsea of Lee's Summit, MO; Paige Wagner and her husband Jacob of Enid, Oklahoma; and Eric Hampton and his wife Hajar of Chicago, IL. Doris is also survived by her brother Gerald Lane and his wife Sylvia of Downers Grove, IL. She had the joy of being a great-grandmother to five precious great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie, and her sister, Betty Marie Lane.

Doris's funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 2 PM at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, MO. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation starting at 1 PM until the time of the service. Following the funeral, a graveside service will take place at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg, MO. Pastor Rick Hodge will officiate the services, honoring Doris's life and the impact she had on her loved ones.

In honor of Doris's memory and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or St. Luke's Heart Institute. These organizations were dear to her heart, and any support given will help continue their invaluable work.

Doris Marilyn Hampton will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, a dear sister, and a talented cook. Her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
