George Peter "Pete" Mergener, age 82, of Warrensburg, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022.

He was born February 22, 1940, in Harvard, IL, the son of Joseph John and Lena June (Leiting) Mergener of Merrillan, WI.

He served a prestigious 28 years in the United States Air Force. His honorable service consisted of extensive worldwide deployments and tours of duty. After his retirement from the USAF, he worked as an instructor at the CMSU campus in Warrensburg and for the CMSU Skyhaven Airport.

George was an avid learner and student of life. His journey through books and various fields of study including culinary cookbooks, cultural history, as well as religious exploration gave his family a vast insight on life and all it has to offer.

George never met a stranger.

George is survived by his children, Diana Lynn and Kenneth "Duffy" Duffield, Deborah Ann and Doug Dyer, Vanessa Joy and Jerry Whitney, Christina Jane and Jack Early, Kimberly Dawn and Shannon Hill, David Kenneth and Shelly Mergener, Barbara Sue and Steve Austin, Adam Peter and Tamara Mergener; 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; his brother, Robert "Bob" and Judy Mergener; and a longtime friend and adopted son, Mark Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife of 37 years, Geraldine Glee Cull of Warrensburg.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
