Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Wood, age 89, of Warrensburg, MO passed peacefully away Friday, September 22, 2023 at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.

Jerry was born August 1, 1934 in Lee's Summit, MO, the third son of Earle Welton Wood and Frances Jackson.

On December 2, 1960 in Independence, MO, he and Carole Sue Blankenship were united in marriage.

Jerry was a jack of all trades. He retired from the Air Force as a Major after 22 years. He loved flying all different airplanes with his favorite being a helicopter. It was a civilian helicopter job that took him, his wife and two young sons up to Alaska. They went up in 1969 and came back down in 1985 with two teenage daughters. They bought a 160 acre farm and raised polled Hereford cattle over the next 30+ years.  Among other jobs, Jerry did Teamsters and he had a business called Solid Flue Chimney Fixers.

Jerry was an Elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ, Warrensburg Restoration Branch.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carole Wood of Warrensburg; his children, Raymond Wood of Fulton, MO, Samuel Wood of Billings, MT, Jennifer Simmons of Denver, CO, and Margaret (David) Mills of Mayview, MO. Two sisters, Sherry (Stan) Fields of North Kansas City, MO, and Andrea Orona of San Bernardino, CA, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Tina Wood, 4 grandchildren, and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg. Graveside services will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
