Obituary

Helen Nadine (Winters) Selig of Centerview, MO, passe away on the 13th of December 2025, at the age of 93.

Helen was born on October 19th, 1932, in Miller County, MO. She grew up in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri because her father was a Pentecostal preacher who traveled to share his faith, but they always returned to Eldon, MO, where their large extended family was based. Helen attended Eldon High School. She met her future husband, Charles A. (Tony) Selig Jr., at a café in Eldon. She and Tony eloped on May 10th, 1953, to Harrison, Arkansas. They had two children together. They settled on a small farm in the Centerview, MO area in 1966. Helen and Tony were married for 34 years before Tony preceded her in death in 1988. Helen spent time with friends and family after that, continuing to help and support those she cared for. She also reacquainted herself with many friends, especially the Strange family in the Eldon area.

The above paragraph does not begin to cover everything that Helen accomplished in her lifetime. It is the cold statistics of a life, not the accomplishments that the hyphen between the dates represents. She was a loving daughter and sister. Her nieces and nephews all have a soft spot for their Aunt Helen. She made ice cream sandwiches to earn a living, followed the man she loved across the country, and made a home in every location for him and their son. When they settled on a small farm, she grew gardens, crocheted blankets, canned foods, sewed clothes for their little girl, and, when her husband grew older, helped move his mother and sister next to them and cared for them after he was gone. She milked cows, doctored animals, and chucked hay bales like a man because it was what was needed, but never once, no matter how busy she was, did she push away a child or grandchild who wanted her attention. Her love of reading was legendary, and she shared it with all of us. She created meals that will forever live in our memories, and she spoiled us all with her homemade chocolate pudding and the goodies she stashed in her old wringer washer. She was an artist with yarn, fabric, needle, and thread, and when all her chicks were scattered to the winds, she created amazing quilts, which wrapped us all in her love. We can never explain to someone who didn't know her how much more she was.

She set an amazing example of what a good person was to everyone who came within her influence. She had more bonus children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren than can be counted, and we hope we don't leave anyone out. If we do, please know the fault is ours, not hers. She was a Grammie to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dewey Winters; her mother, Ruth Winters; three brothers, Bob, Alfred, and George Winters; her husband, Tony Selig; a great-grandson, Michael Dylan; and a bonus daughter, Gerry Cuthbertson.

Helen leaves behind a son, Chuck (Pam) Selig, and a daughter, Kathleen (Danny Holzhauser) Selig. Grandchildren: Charles (Erin) Selig, Ceejae Coberley, Carolee (Robert) Gard, Kelly Cuthbertson, Carmine (Russel) Claar, Connie (Marvin), Ava (Chris) Keimig, Kirk Swope, Laurie Bainter, Jason (Kyleigh Shelton) Selig, Katie Selig, Steven Selig, Chris (Holly) Holzhauser, Liam Holzhauser, Shayla Holzhauser, Casey (Mackenzie) Cornell, Kellie Cornell, Corinne Brixey. Great-Grandchildren: Dylan (Jessica) McCannon, Trevor Nation, Elizabeth (Zachariah) Kuhr, Ryan Rock, Hailey Rock, Cullen Kotze, Helena Kotze, Ryder Coberly, Riley Coberly, Kaitlyn Brixey, Kyle Cornell, Carter Cornell, and Nikolas Kyle Selig.
