Obituary

James Robert "Jim" Grainger, age 89, of Centerview passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1935, in the kitchen of his home in Centerview, the son of James William and Edna Mae (Whiteman) Grainger.

On September 14, 1957, he and Patricia F. Brown of Concordia were united in marriage. Saturday, September 14, 2024 would have been their 67th wedding anniversary.

Jim is survived by his wife Patricia Grainger; his sons Mark Lee Grainger (Karen) of Centerview and Byron Dale Grainger (Rene) of Centerview; his four granddaughters Kristen Sharpe of Warrensburg, Jennifer Cisler (Lance) of Kansas City, Jessica Woodington (Colton) of Lincoln, and Bethany Moon of Chilhowee; Crystal & David Mellinger family, Jerry Weide and family, Errin Jones and husband Brent (Stover). Jake Robertson and wife Ashley (Warrensburg); as well as his twelve great-grandchildren Jasmine, Hudson, Mason, Cayden, Karsyn, Kylie, Marshall, Greyson, Eli, Levi, William, and Jameson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

JimBob spent most of his life on the century-old family farm in Centerview. He enjoyed all types of farming, having raised feeder pigs before starting a cow and calf operation. JimBob was invested in improving the genetics of the herd and was always trying to buy the best bulls possible. Come rain, sleet, or snow, the cows still had to be taken care of and JimBob was the man for the job. He loved to share the farm with his granddaughters. JimBob taught the girls to ride horses as he himself loved to rope cattle on his mare Missy.

JimBob also enjoyed raising a variety of crops including corn, soybeans, and wheat; he was always ready to rush to the field on his combine. He really liked to hunt quail with his bird dogs. JimBob and Pat learned how to square dance and were members of the Wranglers club. When the boys were younger, the family spent a lot of time at the lake boating, fishing, and teaching the boys how to waterski.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Gary Scherer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
