Obituary

Janie Sue Sullivan (White) was born on December 30, 1942, in Dumas, Arkansas, the second daughter of Russell and Iva Gee White.

Janie grew up on a sharecropper's farm in southeast Arkansas, where her family's main crop was cotton. She finished high school in May of 1960 and married Alpha Sullivan in November of 1960. She became a military wife and the mother of three children.

Janie loved to cook and bake for everyone. She enjoyed gardening and dearly loved her flowers. Over the years, she was a very talented crafter-there was no craft she didn't try. She also loved flowers and birds and never left the house without a hat!

Janie and Alpha raised their three children, Necia, Angela, and Donald, as they moved around with the Air Force. Retirement allowed the family to settle in the Warrensburg and Knob Noster area. Janie loved to serve the Lord and was always active in the WMU, church choir, and various committees in whatever Southern Baptist church she belonged to.

In her other social circles, she enjoyed meeting "the girls" for lunch at the Panther, playing dominoes, and "Round-to-It." The friendships she made with these ladies were lifelong and deeply cherished.

Janie is survived by her three children: Necia Clothier (Fred), Angela Steele of Knob Noster, and Donald Sullivan (Brenda) of Warrensburg; four grandchildren: Jacob Smith (Sarah) of Texas, Jennifer Dennis (Chris) of Warrensburg, Alison Sullivan of Leeton, and Zachary Steele (Tannerlee) of Virginia; and eight great-grandchildren: Tuff, Lynna, Aiden, Jayce, Callan, Oliver, Iva, and Colt. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Ellen Ettman of Tennessee and Betty Wagner of Arkansas, and one brother, David White of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Iva Gee White, and her husband, Alpha Sullivan.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Knob Noster Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Richard Colliver, Greg Colliver, Tom Corbett, Tim Park, Zachary Steele, Tuff Dennis, Jacob Smith and Todd Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Janie Sullivan Memorial Fund with checks made payable to Angela Steele.
