Obituary

Joyce Marie McMurphy, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 3:07 p.m., surrounded by the love of those who cherished her. She was 89 years old.

Born on September 19, 1936, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

In the Spring of 1954, she met the love of her life on a streetcar at midnight, his name was John McMurphy. Months later, on February 19, 1955, they were married.

Joyce lived a life defined by deep love, unwavering devotion to her family, and a spirit that touched everyone she met. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and spirited attitude, bringing laughter, comfort, and warmth to family and friends throughout her life.

Joyce found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved reading romance novels, listening to music of all kinds, taking peaceful walks, spending precious time with her children and grandchildren, and enjoying her favorite chocolate treats. More than anything, her family was her greatest treasure. She poured her heart into those she loved and created countless memories that will be cherished for generations.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Hook, Vickey (Robert) Simmons, and Teresa (Randall) Cannon; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love, guidance, and enduring presence in their lives.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Frank Callahan; her beloved husband, John McMurphy, with whom she shared 52 treasured years; and her son-in-law, Darrin Hook.

Though our family grieves her loss, we take comfort in the love she gave so freely and the lasting impact she made on our lives. Mom's legacy of love, laughter, strength, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
