Obituary

Kathryn Lynn (Ricker) Paine was born on December 22, 1954 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She died on July 4, 2023.

Kathy shared her life with Richard Paine, who she was married to for nearly 30 years (m.1994). He is the love of her life and faithful best friend. Kathy and Richard have had many adventures, including trips to Alaska and winters in Dauphin Island, AL.

Kathy's blended family includes Pam and Brian Houser, Heather and John Campbell, Billie Chamberlin and Doug Hawkins, Gretchen and JJ Frerking, Zach and Shannon Paine, Ashley Hudson, and Lindsay and Jason Tarasovic.

Her grandchildren are Zach (Chelsea), Lindsey (John), Logan, Colton (Hailey), Cameron, Jessica (Colton), Bethany, Christine (Adam), Newlin, Mason, Emilee, Megan (Jake), Jo (DeAngelo), Hannah (Jose), Avery, and Marissa. Her great-grandchildren are Brynlee, Kennedy, Marshall, Greyson, Eli, Levi, Oakley, Layton, Amari, and Leo.

Kathy's parents were Doris (Coulter) Hebert and Dwight Ricker. She was close to her grandparents – Cecil and Elma Coulter and Lawrence and Dorothy Ricker - and had happy memories of visiting their homes as she grew up. Grandma Ricker was a lifelong source of love and support to Kathy. Kathy had a sister in life and in Christ – Susan Bracken. Kathy will be missed by her brother-in-law, Eddie Bracken, niece Kim, and nephews Wes, and Klint.

Kathy had many interesting jobs over the years and earned her college degrees as an older, non-traditional student. She was a single parent at the time. Kathy found her calling as a social worker. She spent more than 25 years at the Kansas City VA and retired from her role managing the spinal cord injury clinic. Kathy loved the veterans and the people she worked with, and both she and her husband volunteered with winter/summer sports events.

Kathy was an active member of Cross Creek Baptist Mission, which she joined in 2000. One of Kathy's favorite things was to sing on the praise team and lift her voice in worship. Kathy's faith in God was very important to her and she hoped that sharing her experiences in life could be a testimony for others.

Kathy's memorial service will be held at Cross Creek Baptist Mission (1050 SW 15th St, Oak Grove, MO 64075) on Tuesday, July 11th. The visitation is at 10AM and services will begin at 11, followed by inurnment at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 3PM.
