Larry Eugene Grant, age 65, of Warrensburg, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 18, 1955 in Independence, MO, the son of Wiley "Gene" Grant and Louise (Helton) Grant. On September 2, 1978, he was united in marriage to the love of his life and best friend, Melissa Brooks, in Warrensburg.

Larry, or Papoo as his grandchildren adoringly called him, was a calf roper and steer wrestler for over 30 years. He was also a union iron worker with Local #10, Kansas City, Missouri, for 37 years before retiring to pursue his passion of raising AQHA quarter horses for the racetrack.

Larry was a man of God, dedicated family man, and continues to be adored by his children and grandchildren. Many would say he was the toughest man they have ever known. He had an infectious laugh, contagious smile, and you could always tell when he was "up to no good." Larry will forever be remembered for his compassion, stubbornness, strength, storytelling, hard work, dedication to others, and much more. There is one thing Larry Grant can be sure of - he will be sadly missed by his loving family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Melissa Grant; his mother, Louise Grant; his children, Austin (Susan) Grant and Calee (Jessica) Grant; his grandchildren, Eli and Malloy Grant; his siblings Brenda (Sam) Shippy and Jeff (Erin) Grant; his mother-in-law, Barbara "Babs" Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wiley "Gene" Grant.

Cremation services were performed by Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.

The family will be holding a celebration of life at Milestones Barn in Warrensburg on May 23, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcome, and food will be provided.
