Larry Allen
Reiter
Aug 10, 1949 — Nov 18, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband and Father, Larry Allen Reiter, who departed this life on November 18th, 2025, at the age of 76. He was a cherished family member, a dependable friend, and demonstrated unwavering commitment in his role as a public servant throughout his lifetime.
Born on August 10th, 1949, in Bloomfield, Missouri, Larry was the son of Donald and Virginia Reiter of Puxico, Missouri. He graduated from Puxico High School in 1967 and continued his education at Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Shortly thereafter, Larry served two years in the United States Air Force before transitioning to the Air National Guard, where he served an additional six years. While in the Air National Guard, Larry worked full-time as a teacher in Greenville, Missouri, where he met Barbara Ann Milam of Saint Louis, Missouri. They were married on September 24, 1977, and shared 48 years together.
Throughout his distinguished career, Larry dedicated 32 years to the Missouri Public Education system, serving in numerous capacities, including Teacher, High School Principal, Vocational Technical School Director, Assistant School District Superintendent, and School District Superintendent, until his retirement in 2005. He subsequently spent 12 additional years as Director of Teacher Certification at the University of Central Missouri, retiring in 2017. His professional journey was marked by the attainment of several advanced degrees, including a PhD in Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Larry's career reflected an unwavering commitment to educational excellence and service to future generations.
Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. A devoted husband and father, Larry always prioritized the well-being of his family above all else. He found great joy in coaching his children's soccer, basketball, and baseball teams, and spent countless hours playing with them, sharing laughter, lessons, and love that will be cherished forever. His positive impact on students, colleagues, and his community endures through his long-standing contributions and perseverance, notably exemplified during his extended battle with cancer.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; his children: Cory and his wife Jessica, Holly and her husband Jake, Marcus and his wife Rylie; and seven grandchildren: Kaycee, Madison, Graham, Wyatt, Ellie, Mollie, and Remi. He is also remembered by numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, immediately followed by a memorial service at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, MO. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share their memories of him.
Although he is gone, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
If anyone wishes to make a donation on behalf of Larry, our preferred charity is the Gift Of Life transplant house in Rochester, Minnesota. The reason the Gift Of Life transplant house is special to us is because it connected us with others fighting battles and provided a home environment for the past eight years while Larry was receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic.
