Linda
Shipley
Jan 8, 1944 — Mar 1, 2025
Linda Lee Carpenter Shipley passed away peacefully, March 1, 2025, at her home in Lee's Summit, Missouri with her husband and daughter by her side. She was born January 8, 1944 in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Her parents, Sidney and Alice Carpenter, preceded her in death.
She attended grade school and high school in Warrensburg where she made many lifelong friends. A tight-knit, fun-loving group of women that called themselves "The Legends". In high school, she also met the love of her life, best friend and father to her children, Roger Dennis Shipley. Roger said she was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen when he saw her in a purple outfit after a basketball game he was playing in. The two high school sweethearts were married at her parents' home on February 23, 1962. The loving couple welcomed a baby boy on November 27,1962; Bret Alan Shipley.
The couple lived at various places around Warrensburg. They lived in Windsor, Missouri when baby girl Shelli Dawn Shipley was born, January 11, 1966. As Roger's work in the retail world progressed the family moved to Rochelle, Illinois, and then onto Mountain Home, Arkansas. Linda worked at Sears and then Horton's jewelry store, her most favorite job, making so many wonderful friends. Next stop on the retail trail was Batesville, Arkansas. She worked at Sears there also. Then on to Brookfield, Missouri where she also worked at Sears. They actually lived in a small town near there, Laclede, Missouri. Linda enjoyed this home very much as she was able to see "The Great Pershing Balloon Derby". It literally soared over their deck, the gorgeous colored hot air balloons, so close she would wave at the people inside the baskets. Roger's management duties at Wal-Mart moved them on to Chanute, Kansas. Linda worked briefly at Swift Transportation weighing trucks and doing office work. She also volunteered at the local hospital snack bar, competed in a lady's bowling league, and Mother's
Club. Roger and Linda were very active in Chanute; riding bikes, golfing, and attending their children's activities in high school. In 1986, Linda and Roger moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri after Roger transferred there. A few years later they bought a home, where she resided until her passing.
She acclimated quickly to city life by finding her way around KC. Linda utilized an actual PAPER map and found points of interest for her and Roger to explore. She loved their
memberships to Powell Gardens, The KC Zoo, Starlight Theatre, The Music Hall, The Nelson-Atkins Museum, and others. They also enjoyed many anniversary trips to Big Cedar Lodge and the Branson area together. At home, Linda loved hosting big family dinners, amazing everyone with how much she could prepare in her modest kitchen. She was a gracious hostess, always anticipating others needs. In later years, she and Roger enjoyed neighbor gatherings and "taco night". She was an admirable example in caring for others, as she and Roger lovingly tended to the needs of their parents, her aunt and uncle, her brother, her children and grandchildren. Most of all, she loved her husband of 63 years, children, grandchildren, granddaughter in law, great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles, and friends from all the places they had lived.
She is preceded in death by her parents, parents in law, son Bret, brother, Alan Carpenter, sister Carol Carpenter Tuter. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Roger Shipley, of the home; daughter Shelli (Shipley) Mirocke and husband Mike, Shawnee, KS, grandson Jacob Mirocke, wife, Tia, great grandchildren Logan Estes, Marina Estes, and Lucille Mirocke, Mission, Ks., grandson Daniel Mirocke, Bowling Green, Ohio, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her best friends for life, "The Legends", you know who you are.
God blessed Linda with a wonderful, blessed life and she and Roger lived by their faith in mind and deed. God bless all whom she loved, and all who loved her.
