Lou Ann
Goodnight
Jan 7, 1934 — Dec 28, 2025
Lou Ann Goodnight, age 91, passed away peacefully at Ridgecrest Nursing Center in Warrensburg, MO, on December 28, 2025. She was born to Fred and Kathryn (Braden) Twiehaus on January 7, 1934, in Independence, MO, near her daddy's multi-generational family-owned and operated dairy farm located on 40 Hwy and Noland Road.
To this day we scour antique malls for glass milk bottles with the family's name inscribed on them. Sadly, her father, Fred Twiehaus, was killed in a tractor accident when Lou Ann was 5 years old. She remained close with the Twiehaus family and their many descendants for the remainder of her life. She, her little sister L. Kathleen, and little brother Fred (Bud) spent their summers throughout their youth with her grandparents and families on the family farm where she attended Sunday church services at St Lukes United Church of Christ, and where she was baptized at the age of twelve. She was instrumental throughout her adulthood in helping to organize large and small family annual reunions until her health prevented her from doing so.
Her mother, Kathryn, remarried in 1942 to Vernon Barksdale, whose job as a farm hand provided his family with the opportunity to live in many of the small towns of Missouri. One of Lou Ann's quotes was, "I attended more schools by the age of 18 than I was old." Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia was the scariest to her because she had never attended such a large school. "Thank goodness I was there for only three days!" she claims. To Kathryn and Vernon Barksdale, two sons were born, James and Rolyn, who Lou Ann remained close to until their deaths.
One of the towns her family lived in was Weaubleau, MO, where she met Roger L. Goodnight while in high school. Lou Ann loved her in-laws, having grown up with many of them. Her mother-in-law Callie, father-in-law Emmett, brothers-in-law Shirley (Ruby), Shelby (Bettie), and Charlie (Ruth). Her sister-in-law, Patricia (Don), shared an apartment with her and her sister Kathleen for a short time in Raytown upon graduating from high school. All have preceded her in death. Lou Ann Goodnight Lou Ann graduated from Lowry City High School in May 1952, and married Roger on August 14, 1952, becoming a military spouse in the Air Force. Roger's 28 years military career took them to Albuquerque, NM, Salina, KS, Wichita Falls, TX, Indianola, IA, Mildenhall and Lakenheath, England, Rantoul, IL, Clinton, MO, Wakkanai, Japan, Whiteman AFB, and finally to Warrensburg, MO, upon Roger's retirement.
After settling in Warrensburg, Lou Ann worked for United Missouri Bank (formerly People's Bank) and then for the Innes family at the Innes Elevator Mill until she retired in 1995. For fun, she worked for Millie Curry in her antique mall and tearoom in Sedalia, and part-time at the Wal-marts in Sedalia and Warrensburg, MO. When she wasn't working part time, she volunteered as a member of the WMMC Warrensburg Hospital Auxiliary with their Gift Shop and annual ice cream social. She served at the Catholic Charities food pantry assisting clients and volunteered at the Warrensburg Senior Center during their annual garage sales. She loved reading and spent countless hours at Trails Regional Library assisting with their book sales. She had hobbies too! She traveled to Hawaii and to the Rose Bowl and Las Vegas and to the various duty stations of her son-in-law and daughter.
Lou Ann was a great storyteller, fun, comical, kind and generous, helpful, nonjudgemental, full of grace, and "best grandmother ever!" She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger L.Goodnight, her sister, confidant, and best friend L. Kathleen Gibbens and husband Leslie Gibbens, her brother Fred (Bud) Twiehaus and wife Virginia, her son-in-law James Conover, and, of course, her precious dog Kacy Bella.
She is survived by her four daughters Kandy (Tom Murphy), Patti Conover (Mark Warnick), Tina (Larry Mayers) and Karen (Asher Snook, Jr.), her grandchildren Jamie Conover (Julie), Jacque Flowers (Ian), Stephani Miller (Dave), Lauren Wells (Zach Chandler), Asher Snook III, Matthew Snook (Paula) and Kelly Snook; and her great-grandchildren Jackson and Emma Conover, Simone, Nikolai and Joseph Flowers, Talulah Miller, Asher Snook IV, Ripley and Walker Snook, and Keirah and Korrah Grant.
If you wish to honor Lou Ann's life, please donate to a Warrensburg charity of your choice in her name (ex., Trails Regional Library Foundation, Old Drum Animal Shelter, etc.)
A private memorial and funeral will be held at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, 617 N. Maguire Street, Warrensburg, MO.
