Marjorie A. Watson
August 1, 1929 - October 26, 2026
With grateful hearts, we remember and celebrate the life of Marjorie A. Watson, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Marjorie passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Born at home on August 1, 1929, to Benedict "Buzz" and Mamie Peak, Marjorie grew up in Girard, Kansas. She graduated from high school in 1946 at the age of 16. In 1947, she attended Kansas City Secretarial School, where she lived in a boarding house with Belle Watson. Belle's brother, Joel, came to Kansas City and asked his sister to find him a date for the Missouri State Fair. As luck would have it, that introduction blossomed into a love story that lasted more than 62 years.
In 1954, Marge and Joel began their family. They moved from Raytown to Warrensburg in 1963, where they opened Comfort Engineering Company, a heating and air-conditioning business. Marge ran the office with remarkable efficiency. Known for her impeccable handwriting, she could also type more than 100 words per minute on a manual typewriter.
Their home was filled with the love and activity of four children and Marjorie became famous for her chocolate chip cookies. A faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she made delicious salads for potlucks and funeral dinners. At Christmas, family and friends looked forward to her fudge and peanut clusters. At family reunions, her tender, slow-smoked brisket was always a favorite.
In 1990, Marge and Joel retired and set out to travel throughout the United States and Canada. As a competent co-pilot, she navigated their RV adventures using a KOA campground guide, paper road maps, and a CB radio. They were often joined on their trips by close relatives, routinely parked by 3 p.m. and enjoyed wine and cheese at 4 p.m. - a simple pleasure that reflected their love of travel, family and time spent together.
Marjorie built a full life centered on faith, family and service. She loved, encouraged and supported her family and friends, always putting others first despite her very independent spirit. Having outlived several of her hairdressers, she rarely missed her weekly hair appointment and always dressed to impress. Her sense of style, devotion to others and generosity were hallmarks of the woman so many knew and loved.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joel; her son, Robert "Bob"; and her son-in-law, Steve.
She leaves behind her daughters, Janet Watson (Steve, deceased), Carolyn James, and Pamela Sellers (Samuel); her daughter-in-law, Vickie White; her grandchildren, Samuel, Samantha, Maxwell, Jocie, and Jenna; and her great-grandchildren, McKennon, Roy, Scottie, Shepherd and Wade.
Our sincere thanks go to the staff of Warrensburg Manor and Good Shepherd Hospice for the loving care they provided to our dear, sweet Mom, Marjorie.
Please join the family in celebrating Marjorie's well-lived life by dressing to impress. A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg, Missouri, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg, with a luncheon at 12:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Johnson County Food Center in Marjorie's memory.
