Mary Catherine Handly of Warrensburg, MO, age 98, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

Mary Catherine (Green) Handly was born in Oak Grove, MO on December 28, 1922, the daughter of C.P. and Mildred (Emanuel) Green. She moved to Odessa, MO at the age of 2 and grew up there, attending school and graduating as the valedictorian of her class. Mary Catherine attended William Jewell College for 2 years and returned home after her father's passing and the death of her brother Billie in WWII.

On September 17, 1949, she married Lynn Y. Handly of rural Higginsville. They moved to Warrensburg shortly thereafter. They owned the John Deere dealership from 1954 to 1969 and, during this time, purchased several farms. She was the bookkeeper for the business and farms and also worked 20 years for Citizen's Bank of Warrensburg.

She was active in the community and belonged to several organizations, including P.E.O., ABC Club, D.A.R., Secunda Club, and WD-40. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Warrensburg where she was one of the founding members of the 49ers Sunday school class, as a Trustee of the church board, a CWF member and past President, and was active in choir.

Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Lynn Handly; her parents; her brothers C.P. Green II and Billie Green; her nephew Ed Green; and many other relatives. She is survived by her sons Mark (Carol) Handly of Leeton, MO and David (Cheryl) Handly of Higginsville, MO; her granddaughter Sara; and her great-granddaughter Tara.

Services will be held at the First Christian Church of Warrensburg on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and will last until the time of service. Services will be officiated by Reverend Gina Johnson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Warrensburg, MO and can be left in the care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
