Mary Ellen
Wiskur
May 17, 1930 — Aug 17, 2021
Mary Ellen Wiskur, age 91, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
On May 17, 1930, she was born the daughter of Emory M. and Iona Belle (Kendrick) Dillon.
John (Frank) Wiksur and Mary wed in a small ceremony on July 2, 1955. Mary was a farmer's wife that wasn't afraid of hard work. She'd work on the farm from dawn until dusk alongside the love of her life. They raised registered Hampshire and Chester White pigs, cattle, Australian Shepherd dogs, and row cropped as well.
Many community members remember her working in dining services at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg for 15 years.
Mary also had a knack for baking and cooking. Young school children would wait anxiously as she'd bake and decorate sugar cookies that were--almost--too good to eat. From homemade bread to her infamous potato salad, Mary showed just how much she cared for those she loved with her delicious kitchen creations.
You could often find her crocheting. She used her hands to create beautiful, timeless pieces from doilies that decorated homes to one-of-a-kind baby blankets that swaddled new bundles of joy. She graciously poured her heart into these homespun creations.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother Earl G.; husband John (Frank) Wiskur; and great-grandson Wyatt Bramwell.
Mary is survived by her three children, Martin, Sue (Bell) and Alvin Wiskur; grandchildren, Christie (Wiskur) Bramwell, Shawna (Bell) Newman, Nicholas Bell, Scotty Wiskur, and Dusty Wiskur; great-grandchildren, Kaylene (Bramwell) Whited, Isabelle Newman, and Ansel Newman; and great-great-grandchild Baylor Liam Whited.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until service time. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In honor of Mary's memory, feel free to make a donation to Warrensburg Animal Rescue or to simply perform a random act of kindness for someone.
