Obituary

Mildred Maxine Wood, 98, of Warrensburg, MO, went to her eternal home in heaven after passing away on November 22, 2020 at Wildwood Rehabilitation in Joplin, MO.

Mildred was born on July 22, 1922 to Harley and Oisee (Icy) Johnson in Adrian, MO. She grew up on the family farm west of Adrian, and attended Fairview Country grade school. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1940. After graduation, she moved to Butler to start working.

On November 8, 1941, she was united in marriage to Glenn L. Borum, and to their union two sons, Glenn and Richard, were born.

In 1953, Mildred and son Glenn were baptized and became members of the First Christian Church of Butler. She was a member of the non-pariel class for over 60 years. She was also a very active member of CWF in the church. She was a deacon for several years, and helped with almost all church activities. She joined the Warrensburg First Christian Church after moving from Butler to Warrensburg.

In 1960, Mildred married Dean Wood. A few years later, she began working in the office of Dr. A.L. Hansen of Butler. She worked for him for 20 years until he died in an airplane crash. She then retired from working in 1983 and began to volunteer for various causes. One of her favorite places to volunteer was a nursing home where she led the residents in many different games for 5 years. After that she and her husband Dean began to take many bus tours all over the United States. She was afraid to fly, but did get the courage to fly to Hawaii and visit all the different islands.

Mildred enjoyed traveling, shopping, and being with friends and family. She especially enjoyed doing things with her grandson Jeffrey and watching him play soccer, football, basketball, and baseball. She also took great delight in cooking for the entire family, especially on holidays and birthdays.

After selling her home in Butler in 2011, she moved to Warrensburg to live with her son Glenn. They enjoyed going to church and UCM athletic events, walking at the multi, and eating and visiting with their friends at the Warrensburg Senior Center.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and husbands Glenn L. Borum and Dean Wood.

She is survived by her sons, Glenn Borum of Warrensburg, MO and Richard (Susan) Borum of Joplin, MO; a grandson, Jeffrey (Anya) of Joplin, MO; a great grandson Carter of Joplin; and several cousins.
