Obituary

Nathan Robert Meredith, age 15, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri. Most people called him "Nate," "NateyKC," "NateMer," among others.

Nate was born on June 3, 2010, the son of Brian and Kayla (Heitland) Meredith, in Liberty, Missouri. He attended Chapel Hill Elementary, Gateway 6th Grade Center, Antioch Middle School, Warrensburg Middle School and Warrensburg High School and he made tons of friends at each of those places. In first grade, Nate followed the steps of his two older brothers and began a career in baseball. It was evident from an early age that Nate had a gift for throwing a baseball hard and accurate and running fast. He was a natural athlete, but even more than that, he was an incredible teammate. A mom from one of Nate's teams posted this about him that transcends to EVERY team he was on, she wrote..."Nate was more than a teammate, he was family. From practices to long weekends at the ballpark, these boys grew up side by side, creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. He was truly one to watch on the field. Nate lit up centerfield with his speed, incredible reads on the ball, and diving catches that left everyone in awe. As our lead-off hitter, he brought energy and momentum from the very first pitch, setting the tone for his team every game." His love for basketball came alive this past two years as he played for the Warrensburg Tigers basketball teams. He came alive on the court with his hustle and gave his everything on the court and off the court.

On April 26 th of this year, Nate confirmed his faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of the ways he exemplified his faith in Christ is through his compassion for others, whether it was someone who was left out or treated unfairly, didn't have something to eat, and especially the elderly, he was your guy. He loved volunteering at the Country Club Nursing Home. He adored a man that he picked up to take to church on Easter morning. He loved his older sibling's friends and from day one he was right there with them. Nate loved meeting new friends. When we moved to Warrensburg he went to the State Fair in Sedalia with his sister and her friends and he met a new friend from Sedalia. He came home so excited and wanting to go back so that he could hang out with his new friend again. He loved making people laugh and it happened often. If he ever made a mistake like forgetting his basketball undershirt for a game, and wearing a black polo under his jersey, he owned it and acted like it was the "cool" thing to do.

If we are honest, Nate loved YOU ALL...he had a special place in his heart for children. We have countless photos of him with his cousin's kids...truth be told, his sister Carlie and Nate both loved holding the babies and may have had a few spats of who got to hold them . He loved the children in the nursery and even held a child until he feel asleep in his arms one Sunday. He loved people on the margins, the underdogs, he made a special point to connect with people outside of his friend group so that they felt seen. He loved adults and embraced his sister's Cheer world where he was surrounded by teenage and adult women and kept us laughing. He kept his mom going in the right direction on trips. He loved people who stood on the side of the road and even bought a McDonald's Happy meal and had his mom go back to find him to give it to him. He loved the elderly, we have countless pictures of Nate as a small child sitting in his Great Grandma Sena's lap, longer than a 4-year-old would typically sit in someone's lap and Grandma Sena loved it. Nate even loved God's creations. On his way home from church last month, he got out of the car and picked up a turtle in the road and put it on the other side to safety. In a school assignment, he was instructed to write a few things about what he thought his name meant and he wrote: "A good baseball player. A guy who likes Chipotle, and family guy." He was a Family Guy indeed, he loved God, he loved his dad, his mom, his three siblings, his grandparents, aunts/uncles/cousins-like he said, a family guy. Nate knew that when you love God you have many brothers and sisters in Christ, and that means everyone, therefore you were his family and he loved you all :) !

One of the greatest joys is witnessing a child grow up. Ironically, in the last few months, Nate exhibited behaviors of growing up and entering a new season. He trimmed trees, changed the oil in our cars (thanks to Luke teaching him), rearranged the furniture, took initiative all on his own to help our home, opening his first bank account and purchasing a car with his own money, he was soooo proud of that. He was proud to be a Meredith and deeply loved all of the family members listed below...

Nathan is survived by his parents, two brothers; Ben and Luke Meredith, one sister; Carlie Meredith, maternal grandmother; Carol Heitland, paternal grandparents; Bob and Jone Meredith, aunts; Michelle (Al) Patten and Kendra (Eric) Amundson, cousins; Tyler (Kari) Patten and Clayton & Kali, Brandon (Jadee) Patten and Vi, Halle Patten, Derek (Shyenne) Amundson and Knox and Ozzie, Halie (Bryce) Munson and Wyatt, Weslynn and Alayna.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Grandpa Dale (Heitland).

If you come in person for the service, please wear something that helps us know how you are connected to Nate...it could be a school shirt, athletic shirt or jersey, or simply something you think Nate would like. No need to dress up or wear black, although he did love a good bougie outfit-but certainly not necessary-YOU DO YOU (a favorite phrase of Nate's) with what you wear!

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nathan Meredith Memorial Fund with checks made payable to Kayla Meredith. The first 10% of the donations will go to the First United Methodist Church for ministry in Nates name. With the remaining memorial fund, we want to make sure we can cover any medical and death expenses and then we would love to setup a nonprofit fund of some kind that will help people in our community. The five of us have been talking about different ideas, but we will give it more thought, and it is our desire to help the most people we can with the amount that is received, because that is what Nate would want!

We would love to receive any photos that you may have with Nate, so we ask you to put them in this google doc:

We would also receive any photos that you would want to print out, simply one or two of your favorites would be sufficient.
