Obituary

Scott B. Stewart, age 62, of Holden, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at his home.

Affectionately known as Scotty, he illuminated the lives of all who knew him with his warmth, passion, and unwavering dedication to his family, his students, and his community. Born on July 19, 1961, to Leland and Marlene Stewart, Scott's journey was marked by a profound commitment to education, agriculture, and the well-being of those around him.

Scott's educational path was one of diligence and achievement. After graduating from Warrensburg High School in 1979, he pursued his passion for Animal Science, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from CMSU in 1984. His thirst for knowledge led him to further academic accomplishments, obtaining his Agriculture Education Degree in 1987, followed by Master's and Specialist degrees from William Woods University.

On August 9th, 1991, Scott embarked on a lifelong journey with the love of his life, Stephanie. Their union was celebrated with the melody of "You Light Up My Life," a song whose sentiment encapsulated the radiance of their 32 years of marriage. Together, they raised two remarkable daughters, Shelby and Sydnie, who were the center of Scott's world.

Scott's professional calling led him to impact countless lives as an educator. For 16 years, he dedicated his expertise and passion to teaching Agriculture Education, leaving an indelible mark on the students of Pattonsburg, Crest Ridge, KC East Magnet School, and Pleasant Hill. His commitment to nurturing young minds extended beyond the classroom, as he served as a High School Principal at Lone Jack High School for 8 years.

Among Scott's many passions was his love for auctioneering, a skill he seamlessly integrated into both school events and his work with the Shippy and Anstine families at their respected sale barns. Yet, above all, Scott's heart belonged to children. Whether advocating for his own daughters or guiding his students, his every endeavor was driven by a desire for their betterment.

In his retirement from education, Scotty embarked on a new chapter of learning and teaching alongside his nephew, John, as they ventured into the realm of construction. For Scotty, this wasn't merely a job; it was a continuation of his lifelong passion for imparting knowledge and skills to those he cared about.

Over the course of six years, Scotty and John shared more than just construction sites; they shared wisdom, camaraderie, and invaluable life lessons. As they worked side by side, Scotty's dedication to teaching extended beyond the classroom walls, shaping John's understanding of craftsmanship, hard work, and the importance of passing on knowledge to future generations.

Their time together wasn't just about building structures; it was about building memories, forging bonds, and preparing John for the road ahead. Scotty's guidance and mentorship became a beacon of light, illuminating the path for John as he navigated the complexities of life.

Though Scotty may have left the earthly realm, the legacy of his teachings and the imprint of his kindness will forever endure in the heart and hands of those he knew. Their shared experiences serve as a testament to the profound impact one life can have on another, and the enduring power of love, mentorship, and the bonds of family.

Scott's impact extended far beyond the educational realm, as he actively participated in the agriculture community. As the Assistant Director of the FFA National Talent for 6 years and a member of the Western Central Electric Round-Up Committee, he tirelessly championed the interests of young agriculturists.

His love knew no bounds, evident in his unwavering support for his girls' activities and athletics. From cheering them on at games to traveling hundreds of miles to show his pride, Scott's devotion was boundless. He also found joy in supporting the UCM Mules and Jennies, a testament to his enduring spirit of camaraderie.

Scott's legacy is one of love, service, and boundless generosity. His light will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives he touched, forever remembered for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of others. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Scott's favorite saying, "Every day is a Great day!", encapsulated his unwavering positivity and zest for life. With these words, he greeted each day as a precious gift, embracing its opportunities and challenges with boundless enthusiasm and optimism.

Throughout his journey, Scott embodied the spirit of this mantra, infusing joy and positivity into every interaction and endeavor. Whether he was teaching students, supporting his family, or working alongside his nephew, John, his infectious optimism inspired those around him to see the beauty and potential in each moment.

Even in the face of adversity, Scott's steadfast belief in the inherent goodness of life never wavered. His favorite saying wasn't just a phrase; it was a philosophy that guided his actions and shaped his outlook on the world.

As we honor Scott's memory, let us carry forward his legacy by embracing each day with the same spirit of positivity and gratitude that he embodied. May his favorite saying serve as a reminder to cherish the gift of every moment and find joy in the simple pleasures of life. For Scott, every day truly was a great day, and his legacy of optimism and positivity will continue to inspire us all.

His daughters, Shelby McDonald (Coty) and Sydnie Stewart (Jackson) were his pride and joy, embodying the love and strength he instilled in them. The light of his life continued to shine through his two precious grandchildren, Loretta and Winnona McDonald, who brought him boundless joy.
