Angle
Mar 10, 1948 — Jun 17, 2022
Warrensburg
Dated 5/23/22
Written by Steve
Stephen "Steve" W. Angle was born March 10, 1948, in Humansville, Missouri. He died June 17, 2022, at home with family by his side.
Steve was the son of William Milton Angle from Davis Township, Henry County, Missouri and Barbara Kay DeLozier Angle of Clinton, Missouri. He had two sisters: Sandra Angle Knorpp Dinges, deceased, and Deborah Angle Taylor. Steve attended Mount Carmel Elementary School in Henry County, Butler High School, and the University of Missouri-Columbia where he received a bachelor's degree in Math Education and a master's degree in Educational Administration. He later attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he received his Juris Doctorate.
Steve spent his young life on the farm in Davis Township with his parents and summers on the farm with his grandparents, Clarence Clemons (Rube) Angle and Beulah Marie Steele Angle. He acquired his grandparents' and father's love for the farm that was homesteaded by family in 1866. On December 13, 1969, he married Denna Marie Garber. Steve practiced law in Warrensburg, Missouri over a 24-year period and served as Associate Circuit Judge for Johnson County for 20 years.
Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Denna; two sons William "Bill" Angle and his wife Kelli and William "Bill Allen" Hoffman and his wife Suzana; two grandchildren Henley Marie Angle and Ryan Hoffman; one sister Deborah Taylor and her husband, Gary Dean Taylor; nieces and nephews Stephanie Willerton, Lee Willerton, and Rhonda Rogge; Rhonda's husband Tom and their children Renae, Kristen, and James; as well as special cousins Gene DeLozier, Vance DeLozier, Don DeLozier, Pat DeLozier, and Sherry Rein who were important in his life.
To his lifelong friends, golf group, fellow judges and attorneys, his political friends, and clients, he wished to say…"We fought, laughed, worked, played, and now say goodbye. I hope we made each other better people."
Steve was a farm hand, mathematics teacher, real estate broker, commercial property owner, lawyer, and judge. Steve practiced law in Warrensburg, Missouri, dabbled in politics and was immensely proud of helping the "good ones" into public office (and the bad ones out). He always remembered his father and grandfather's advice that integrity was the "measure of a man." Steve was elected Associate Circuit judge in 1987 and served for 20 years. After 20 years, he retired from the judiciary in 2007 and returned to the practice of law but was still "Judge" to the people of the county until his death.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Wilson, Jeff Hanna, Bob Postlethwait, Bob Wilson, Ron Garber, Fred Franken, Bradley Knipp, Gary Taylor, Tom Rogge, Jason Heany, Hon. William Collins, Hon. Michael Wagner, Hon. Garrett R. Crouch, and Adam Easterwood. Honorary pallbearers "in morte" are J.R. Parks and Terry Morgason.
A family burial under the direction of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home will be held at Steve's request. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 24 from 5-7 pm at Hidden Pines Golf Course in Warrensburg, MO. In lieu of flowers or contributions, he requests that you spend time playing golf with your friends or helping a child become a better person.
