Velma Mary Bertschy, age 81, of Knob Noster, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Western Missouri Medical Center.

She was born April 13, 1941, the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Simon) Kerfont in Cape St. George, Newfoundland, Canada.

On February 12, 1961, she and John Bertschy were united in marriage.

Velma is survived by her husband, John Bertschy of Knob Noster; her sons, Mark Bertschy and Paul Bertschy; her grandchildren, Layne Bertschy, Paige (Chaz) Mercer, Johnathan Bertschy, Joseph Bertschy, Sherry Bertschy, Jill Bertschy, and Jamie Bertschy; and her siblings, Lawrence Kerfont and Elmer Kerfont, both of Newfoundland, Priscilla Kerfont of Greenville, SC, Viola Downie and Joan Keener, both of St. Louis, and Linda Wiegert and Betty Saade, both of Nova Scotia.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Matthew Bertschy, and her siblings, Gilbert, Jerry, Maurice, Hubert, Regina, and Barbara.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Knob Noster Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD and can be left in care of the funeral home.
