Obituary

Virgil Bradford Teaford Jr. (Brad), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated military leader, passed away peacefully. Brad left behind a legacy of love, respect, and wisdom. Born on May 22, 1943, at his maternal grandmother's home in Syracuse, Ohio, he was the son of Virgil Bradford Teaford Sr and Helen Louise (Cundiff) Teaford.

Brad graduated from Melbourne High School in 1961 and went on to attend Rio Grande College. However, shortly after his college journey, he realized he was being drafted so he joined the United States Air Force, a path that would define much of his life. He later earned a business degree from Greeley University and a master's degree in safety management from the Central Missouri State University.

A proud veteran, he dedicated 25 years to the military, where he became an expert in nuclear munitions maintenance. He rose through the ranks to retire as a Senior Master Sergeant, earning the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. Loyal to his troops, Brad was known for standing up for his people and leading with integrity. His guiding principles-"Follow the book," "Never lie; if you make a mistake, tell the truth and I will have your back 100%," and "Always do what's right"-were not only his mantras but also the foundation upon which many of his colleagues built their careers.

It was during his military service that he met the love of his life, Deanna (Burlage) Teaford. Together they shared 58 wonderful years until her passing in June 2024. They were blessed with four children: Denise (Brent) Hoke, Virgil B. Teaford III, Jeffrey (Sherri) Teaford, and Darrin (Cadee) Teaford. His love extended to his 10 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brad was a wonderful father and husband, enjoying time fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. His ability to weave epic stories made family gatherings lively and memorable, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Virgil will be deeply missed but will forever be remembered for his leadership, his unwavering principles, and his profound impact on those around him. His legacy of love and integrity will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.
