Obituary

Vyrdel Sue Basye passed from this earthly life on Friday June 14th, 2024 surrounded by her family, due to complications from her courageous battle with Parkinson's. She was born on March 25th, 1952 in Council Bluffs, IA, to Virgil and Delores (Jurgens) Bebensee. She grew up in Glenwood, IA where she graduated from high school in 1970.

In 1976, she married Jerry Basye on July 24th in Glenwood, IA. They then began their nomadic journey. The first part of their journey together was in Iowa with the first stop being in Humboldt then back to Glenwood, and on to Minden, Boone, and Madrid. From there they came to Missouri, where they have been for 35 years.

Vyrdel was a dedicated educator for 37 years, teaching everything from kindergarten to high school special education and everything in between in Iowa and Missouri. She loved working with kids and it was evident that those kids loved her right back. Vyrdel retired from education in 2010 after teaching for a combined 20 years in the Concordia & Knob Noster Public School Districts and set about madly scrapbooking, which was a great passion in her life. She chronicled vacations, J.K. and Bret's athletic careers, but her favorite was scrapbooking about her beloved grand-kids: Avery, Myla, Addison, Barrett, and Cohen. There are very few pictures of her because she was always the one doing the clicking.

In 1995, she became a 'preacher's wife' which she loved, but also added a lot to her plate. She always taught Sunday School, often did the Children's Sermon, and tried to keep her 'preacher' in check. The world is a better place because of Vyrdel. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include: Husband, Jerry of Warrensburg, MO. Sons: J.K. (Leslie) Basye of Concordia, MO & Bret Basye of Omaha, NE. Grandchildren: Avery & Addison Basye of Concordia, MO & Myla, Barrett, & Cohen Basye of Omaha, NE. Sister, Veldene (Dave) Wilson of Glenwood, IA along with her beloved nieces and nephews & great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding Vyrdel in death were her parents, Virgil & Delores Bebensee.

Vyrdel made the decision to donate her body to scientific research at the University of Missouri, Columbia, so a memorial service is scheduled for Friday, June 21st at 10:30 AM at First Christian Church in Warrensburg, MO. Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Thursday, June 20th from 6:00-7:30 PM in the Christian Life Center (CLC) at First Christian Church in Warrensburg, MO.

Memorials can be directed to the College of Education - Special Education Department at the University of Central Missouri. Monetary donations can be left at the services or can be directed to Dr. Lisa Robbins, Lovinger 4101, Warrensburg, MO 64093.

The family would like to send a special note of thanks to Kalli and Kelly with VNA Hospice Care. They both cared for Vyrdel as if she was part of their own family. Also, a special thanks to Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home of Warrensburg for their support and help with the arrangements that have been put in place for Vyrdel.
