Walter James
"Jim" Richardson
Jul 13, 1934 — Sep 3, 2021
Warrensburg
Walter James "Jim" Richardson, age 87, of Warrensburg passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City.
He was born Friday, July 13, 1934, in Madison, WI.
Jim started working at a very young age with a paper route. That grew to several routes with other boys working for him. He worked continually from the age of seven until his retirement at age 66. Jim enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 17, passing his GED two years before his class graduated, to serve in the Korean War. After leaving the Marines he enlisted in the US Army the same day. He served another tour of duty in Korea and two tours in the Vietnam War, retiring from military service in 1980. During his military service he received numerous citations including three Bronze Stars. He went on to work several jobs, including civil service at Whiteman Airforce Base until retiring in 2000.
He met his future wife Kirsten Guglielmetti while stationed in Germany. They were united in marriage on December 27, 1960, in Aalborg, Denmark. He proposed by saying "everyone would like to meet and marry a knight in shining armor; I'd like to be yours."
He was a good husband, father, and grandfather. For him there was nothing better than time with family and a good day fishing. He also loved children and animals. He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Kirsten Richardson of Warrensburg; his daughter Paige (Todd) Foster of Parkville, MO; a grandson Alex Foster; his siblings Patricia Sweet, Frank (Sharon) Richardson, Marie Johnson, Craig (Virginia) Richardson, Ned Richardson, and brother-in-law Don Moore; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter E. Richardson; his beloved stepmother Velda Richardson; and his sisters Joan (Richard) Buhler, Mary (Buster) Albertson, Coleen Moore; and brothers-in-law Leo Sweet and Garry Johnson.
