Wanda Mae
Rainey
Oct 16, 1939 — Jun 30, 2023
Knob Noster
Wanda Mae Rainey, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, at her home in Knob Noster, MO.
Wanda grew up on a farm in Knob Noster with her four sisters. She married the love of her life, Robert D. Rainey, also from Knob Noster, who had four brothers.
They married on July 14, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Knob Noster.
After Bob returned from Vietnam, he and Wanda moved to Florida where they had their two sons, Timothy D. Rainey and Randy W. Rainey, of whom she was so proud.
Ailing parents brought the family back to Missouri. Wanda started a career at Walmart, where she became the assistant store manager. She enjoyed her time there and met her best friend, Ruth Kinney. She retired from Walmart to enjoy her hobbies and to spend more time with family.
Wanda spent many years on the farm raising a variety of different animals, including her pet pig, Tootsie, Rocky the squirrel, a raccoon, and her pride and joy, Maggie, a Pekingese.
While her two sons served in the military, Wanda enjoyed painting, and sold many items at her craft booth. Everyone loved her artwork.
Friends and family were the most important thing to Wanda. Her favorite times were when everyone gathered for fishing tournaments, weenie roasts, board games, and a whole lot of laughs.
She was an amazing cook. Wanda enjoyed the holidays most of all because she was able to cook a huge meal for her family. Her church family also enjoyed many of her delicious dishes.
Wanda was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Christian Church, and later transferred to Knob Noster Christian Church.
Wanda and Bob were looking forward to celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary this July.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Robert D. Rainey, a son, Timothy D. Rainey, and his wife, Mona L. Rainey, of Wichita, KS, two grandchildren, Mistye D. Coffman and Robby W. Rainey, five great grandchildren, and her two sisters, Mary Rainey and Connie Brown.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Dale Brown, her son, Randy W. Rainey, and her two sisters, Patty Beck and Eunice Opfer.
A funeral service will be held on July 5, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Knob Noster Christian Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Following service, a graveside will be held at Knob Noster Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to the Show Me Christian Youth Home and left in the care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
