Obituary

A loving father and respected friend, advisor, and confidant to so many, Charles Wendell Davis's love of life did not come to an end with his death. Wendell passed away on April 10, 2024, surrounded by the love of his daughter and son who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

He was born on February 24, 1941, the son of Ralph and Hattie Davis.

He graduated from Warrensburg High School and attended Central Missouri State University. Wendell married the love of his life, Carol Pine, and enjoyed a wonderful life together with their twins. Wendell was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and earned a mark of distinction for combat. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to enjoy businesses in farming, tire recycling, and real estate. He was a partner in the Meda Pine Tax Service and prepared taxes for more than 40 years. Always a servant leader, he was elected President of the Centerview School Board, was appointed by former Governor Kit Bond and elected County Clerk of Johnson County, MO for 18 years. He served as President of the Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities and was appointed by former Secretary of State Roy Blunt to the Missouri Election Commission. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as President of the Warrensburg Shriners. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a 49-year member of the American Legion.

The simplest pleasure in life brought great joy to Wendell. He loved watching birds and enjoyed the daily beauty of nature. Additionally, Wendell had an uncanny ability to find the beauty in the broken from an antique car to a tractor, or a residential property. It always brought a smile to his face when he could envision what the investment could be. Wendell is preceded in death by his parents, and wife Carol, and survived by his brother W.O. Davis, daughter Wendy Doyle and husband Jim, son Chad Davis and life partner Christi Allen, grandson Ryan Davis and wife Dani, and great grandson Finn Davis.

A private interment service will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. The family invites you to join them in celebration with a visitation reception on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 4:00-6:30 pm at Milestone Barn, 380 NW State RT 13, Warrensburg, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Johnson County Cancer Foundation or to Survival House to support the Wendell Davis Concert Series.
