Wilbur "Randy"
Arwood
Mar 10, 1960 — Feb 21, 2022
Warrensburg
Wilbur Randall "Randy" Arwood, age 61, of Warrensburg passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at his home.
He was born March 10, 1960 in Warrensburg, the son of Edgar Lee and Myrtle E. (Thompson) Arwood.
Randy was a quiet man. Most would stop there and miss the essence of who he was.
His true north was a strong moral compass of right and wrong and his unwavering commitment to hold himself to that standard. He was a lifelong member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he learned at an early age the values that would stick with him throughout his life.
Privacy was important to him. He had a deep respect for the privacy of others and only trusted family and friends were offered access into his world. Many who knew him considered him to be a confidant.
Material possessions were not particularly enticing. He worked hard for the money he earned and demonstrated not only desire to be a good steward of his income, but an often talked about ability to stretch a dollar to its full potential.
He placed high value on time spent with family and friends. He could often be found at the grill, cooking for family dinner. He appreciated the letters and cards that showed up in his mailbox, and he was mindful of the importance to reply. His tender, gentle spirit earned him the role of favored uncle, but it is the one-of-a-kind, teasing greeting of "Gorky-Gorky" coupled with "squirt" or another Randyism of "Gazoople" that is most often a laughter filled cherished memory.
Randy was little brother to Jim. During the fifty-six years they spent together on this earth, an unbreakable bond developed. They grew up on the farm and earned their first paycheck together working in a hay field in the hot summer sun. They raised hogs, purchased rental property, and went on to work side by side for nearly forty more years. They laughed, played, worked and loved. Randy and Jim were not only brothers, they were lifelong best friends.
Most obvious to all that knew Randy, was the love he had for his two sons, Adam and William. He fully embraced fatherhood; the good, the bad and the ugly. He changed diapers, ironed clothes, packed lunches, checked homework, assigned chores, made breakfast pizzas, and attended school programs. He laughed, cried, yelled, worried, hugged and loved. Yes, he loved through it all. Not so long ago, in a quiet conversation on the front porch, he leaned back in his chair, and said, "The very bes t thing I ever did..... My proudest accomplishment...is to be the father of Adam and William."
Randy is survived by his sons Adam James Arwood and William Lee Arwood; his brothers Jerry (Judy) Arwood and Roger (Marcelle) Arwood; and his sisters Joy (Wil) Mistele, Pat Wilson; as well as his nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother James Arwood; sister Sue Williams; nephew Jeremy Arwood; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Call officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Rogers, Bill Boyd, Scott Simmons, Jack Easterwood, Lynn Schumate, and Dennis Gilroy. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Arwood, Roger Arwood, Wil Mistele, and Gary Arwood.
