Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of William Harry Draper announces his passing on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 85.

Harry will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Marilyn Knox and Sharon Hauser; his children, Brad Draper, Lisa Lambkin, and Teresa Guthrie; his grandchildren, Amber Webster, Austin Lambkin, Cody Guthrie, Corbin Draper, Dylan Guthrie, Erika Lambkin, and Morgan Draper; and his great-grandchildren, Harris Webster, Kampbell Webster, Parker Guthrie, Rory Guthrie, and Rowan Webster. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom have countless stories and cherished memories to share.

He was born on February 19, 1941, in Warrensburg, Missouri, the son of Gordon and Margaret Draper.

On April 28, 1968, he was united in marriage to Karen King in Harrisonville, Missouri, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, family, and shared experiences.

Harry spent the majority of his life in Knob Noster, where he built both his career and his community. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Central Missouri (then Central Missouri State University), where he earned a degree in mathematics. Following his college education, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Tucson, Arizona. Upon completing his military service and returning home, he began his career as an engineer, a profession he pursued with dedication and pride until his retirement.

Above all, Harry was a loving and active father who was always present and deeply involved in his children's lives. He coached Little League baseball for his son and could be found at every game, meet, and match for each of his three children, offering unwavering support and encouragement. His commitment extended beyond his own family into the community, where he served on the Knob Noster R-VIII School Board-first as a member and later as board president for many years. He and his wife, Karen, were also active members of the Knob Noster Booster Club, supporting local students and athletics.

Harry had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and simple pleasures. He enjoyed gardening, camping, boating, fishing, and raising cattle-pastimes that reflected his strong work ethic and love of nature and family.

In retirement, Harry found joy in life's everyday moments. He enjoyed driving a school bus for the Knob Noster School District, where he had the unique pleasure of transporting and connecting with multiple generations of students. He treasured his morning visits with his brother and especially valued the time spent traveling to see his children and grandchildren.

Harry will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to his family, and the quiet, meaningful ways he showed his love to those around him. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped raise and the many lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Draper; his mother, Margaret Lee Draper-Kirkpatrick; his sister, Carolyn Roberts; his brother, Larry Draper; his son-in-law, Frederick Guthrie, Jr.; and his beloved wife, Karen Draper.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Knob Noster Cemetery.
