Obituary

William Robert "Bill" Dyer passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, at the age of 80. He was a lifelong resident of Warrensburg, MO.

Bill was born on July 10, 1942 in Warrensburg to Marion Pogue and Hazel (Pollock) Dyer. He was one of six siblings who grew up on a farm on "Route 4", as he called it. On October 20, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Rebecca "Becky" Sturgis in Holden, MO. Bill and Becky recently celebrated 60 years of marital bliss.

Bill had a career in banking, working at Crown Finance, the Bank of Knob Noster, and United Missouri Bank (UMB). He ended his career at UMB after 25 years where he worked as a loan officer and was known for his unparalleled customer service to his customers and friends. Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge and Lion's Club. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for his service in Lion's Club. Bill was a longtime member of University of Central Missouri (UCM) Mule Train. He loved attending UCM athletic events, especially when his grandson was on the football field.

Bill was a handyman and enjoyed helping others paint, repair, or remodel. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, or simply "piddling" in his workshop. Bill loved to get in the passenger seat of Becky's Corvette and go where she led. He attended every one of his grandchildren's events from grade school through college, serving as one of their biggest fans. He was very proud of his family. Bill loved people and loved helping people. He was known for his big smile, humor and contagious laugh. Those who knew him well could say that he was a bit ornery. Bill made a positive impression on everyone he met and the community which he loved.

Bill is survived by his wife Becky; son Todd (Lisa) Dyer; grandchildren Taylor (Brittney) Dyer and Ellie (Trey) Graves; and great-grandchildren Brooks and Chloe Dyer, and Poppy Graves; sisters Jane Russell and Candace (Steve) Robertson; sister-in-law Janet (Don) Bruns. Bill also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mark Dyer, and sisters Barbara Skidmore and Pam Miller.
